The Cheats screen in Conker's Bad Fur Day.

Cheats is a feature in Conker's Bad Fur Day.

Features and overview

Cheats is part of the main menu, where it is zoomed in at the fireplace of The Cock and Plucker, next to a Fire Imp. The player enters a cheat from on-screen wooden computer keys which include every letter sorted alphabetically, a period, a space bar, a backspace (DEL) and an Enter key. The highlighted key has a pink background surrounding the letter. The player can use the Control Stick to move between keys, or press A Button to input the highlighted letter, and B Button to exit from the Cheats menu. When the player is done inputting a cheat, they must press the Enter key, causing the Fire Imp to say whether or the inputted cheat is valid. The Nintendo Power guide does not provide a list of cheats.

There are a total of 21 cheats that can be entered:

Unused content

There are some unused text strings for cheats in the retail build. Many of these strings are of functional cheats in the the debug build.[1][2]

  • VM INFO - Unknown purpose; exists as an unused text string in the retail version.
  • XFYHIJERPWAL IELWZS - A cheat in the retail version that activates the crash debugger. This cheat is unusable in both the debug and ECTS builds.
  • SKIP CUTSCENES - A cheat in the debug build that allows the player to skip all cutscenes. It is also an unused text string in the ECTS build.
  • SPEEDY MOVE - A cheat in the debug build that does not appear to do anything. It is also an unused text string in the ECTS build.
  • ALL GOOD CHEATS - A cheat in the debug build that unlocks all chapters; similar to WELDERSBENCH in the retail release and ECTS build.
  • INFO - A cheat in the debug build that displays memory usage information and the CPU load status.

The debug prototype also has an exclusive cheat, DEBUG, which enables the crash debug menu. It also exists as an unused text string in the ECTS build but not the retail version.

ECTS build

In the ECTS build, a cheat cannot be enabled from the Cheats menu and can only be enabled by using a cheating device. Two cheats from the retail version, "CHOCOLATESTARFISH" and "MONKEYSCHIN", only exist as unused text strings in the ECTS build, and have not yet been implemented.

There are some cheats absent from the retail version, including a few that were later renamed:

  • NUTBINGCOEDS - Later renamed to CHINDITVICTORY
  • BAPHOMETSVAN - Later renamed to EATBOX
  • BOVRILBULLETHOLE - Gives Conker an afro of an Uga; this cheat was repurposed for the retail version.
  • DRACULASTEABAGS - Gives Conker a mohawk like a Surf Punk's; this cheat was repurposed for the retail version.
  • DUTCHOVENS - Gives Conker the spiky hair of a Surf Punk's; this cheat was repurposed for the retail version.
  • KOJACKSROLLNECK - Changes single player mode to have a multiplayer resolution; this cheat was entirely removed from the retail version.

A few placeholder string names exist in the ECTS prototype:

  • CHEAT TWENTY ONE
  • CHEAT TWENTY TWO
  • CHEAT TWENTY THREE
  • CHEAT TWENTY FOUR
  • CHEAT TWENTY FIVE
  • CHEAT TWENTY SIX
  • CHEAT TWENTY SEVEN
  • CHEAT TWENTY EIGHT
  • CHEAT TWENTY NINE
  • CHEAT THIRTY
  • CHEAT THIRTY ONE
  • CHEAT THIRTY TWO

In the retail version, a few of these unused strings were kept intact but with some letters changed:

  • *HEAT TWENTY SIGHT
  • *HEAT TWENTY EINE
  • *HEAT THIRTY N
  • *HEAT THIRTY ONE
  • *HEAT THIRTY TWO

Lastly, there is an unused string "BIFFINSBRIDGE" which does not appear in the retail version.
