Diddy Kong Racing is a racing-adventure video game for the Nintendo 64 starring Diddy Kong. It was developed and published by Rare in late 1997. Diddy Kong Racing marks the debut of Conker the Squirrel, who is one of the playable characters. His inclusion was to familiarize players with the character and to promote the then-upcoming Twelve Tales: Conker 64.
Conker and Banjo were replaced by Dixie Kong and Tiny Kong in the 2007 Nintendo DS remake, Diddy Kong Racing DS, because Rare was owned by Microsoft since 2002 and Nintendo had lost license rights.
